About Ivy Speech Arts

ESTABLISHED IN 2014

Founded by husband & wife team Fane Tse & Josette Jorge Tse

“Mr. Tse” and “Mrs. J”, as they’re charmingly referred to by their students, moved to Toronto together in 2014 from Vancouver where they both taught speech arts for over five years. That year they came to Toronto, they started Ivy Speech Arts Academy with the goal of helping students become more confident speakers.

Both Mr. Tse and Mrs. J have a passion for presentation and education, which shows in the classes they developed, the teachers they have, and the community they created. Seeing students develop and reach for their potential is what inspires them to continue the work they do.

We coach students for success in all areas of their life.

  • Students register for group classes which have a maximum of six students in each class, and last for one hour and fifteen minutes. The small class sizes allow coaches to give plenty of personal instruction and the students also have enough of an audience to present in front of each week.

We coach our students through different monthly public speaking modules, and our teachers help students improve on their: volume, articulation, expressions, pacing, and storytelling abilities. The student’s monthly public speaking challenges are graded and assessed by a different instructor each month, and parents and guests are always encouraged to come be audience members. This combination of teacher assessment and real audience feedback is very helpful for improving student presentation skills and overall confidence!

  • At the end of each term, we organize a recital where students pick their favorite presentation from the past term to perform! The big stage, big audience, and big performances make this a very memorable moment for our students!

  • At the end of each term, students also have an opportunity to challenge the Royal Conservatory of Music’s Speech Arts examination. The exams are typically held in December/ January, and May/June. Students will get a chance to show off their presentation abilities in front of a Royal Conservatory speech arts adjudicator who will give feedback and grades, and students will also earn a certificate for each level of completion.

We are proud to say that numerous students from Ivy Speech Arts Academy have won The Royal Conservatory provincial and national gold medals for the highest grades in numerous levels, every year since our school’s inception!

  • We also offer private one-on-one coaching for students looking to improve their interview skills. Whether your child has never had a school interview before or is very familiar with them, it is always good to practice with an outside instructor who can guide them through the process. We offer expert guidance on interview techniques and give you a little insight to what different schools are looking for.

We have coached students to gain entry to Toronto’s most elite private schools, including: Upper Canada College, University of Toronto Schools, Havergal, Crescent School, Branksome Hall, De Le Salle College, and Bishop Strachan School, just to name a few. We offer our interview preparation classes throughout the year and schedules are flexible, so please inquire if you are interested.
